It is clear that Dyson's in-house legal team are fully part of Dyson's operation. Not only is there GC part of the Executive Board, that ethos of making sure legal is "at the table" goes through the organisation.
For Legal to be able to provide real value it has to operate as part of the commercial team, from the invention/RFI stage, to the design and structural stage right though to the implementation.
Having a general counsel on the executive board is a reflection of just how important the legal team is to Dyson. It started with a team of three lawyers and now has nearly 50 working globally.“For the legal team it’s exciting but also challenging,” says Bowen. The team works on products from beginning to end – that is, from the invention stage, through the design process, up to marketing and distribution in key geographical markets.
