This is another article by Carol Stewart that resonates strongly with me. I've certainly found myself in organisations whose values don't align with mine. Before I acquired rock solid self-confidence (which took until I was in my 40s!) the sort of situations that Carol describes could shake my self-esteem. Her advice about what to do when you feel you're a fish out of water is very useful.
On one of my workshops one of the participants who was very dissatisfied with her job, had an aha moment when she realised that her dissatisfaction was because she didn’t like the way that the organisation treated its customers. It did not align with her values. Realising that this was not something that she was in a position to change, she recognised that she needed to pursue alternative work and find somewhere that aligned with who she was.
